Weekend events in the Portland foodshed (an alternative to mall burnout)

First, I can’t help but share this picture of my veggies from the Hillsdale Market about to be roasted the other night.

Purple, orange, and red may not be traditional Christmas colors, but they sure do light up this dark time of year.  Add in the creamy yellow of warm applesauce and you’ve got sweet comfort food straight from the rich Oregon soil.

And speaking of rich Oregon soil, it’s looking to be a clear day for the Full of Life Farm pasture walk and tour tomorrow, Sat. Dec. 10th.   Most factory farms forbid tours, but not at this sustainable farm.  Owner Bernard Smith will give a tour of his pastures while talking about how he cares for his animals and soil.  Their farm store will be open from 10-3.

Looking for gifts? (Okay, who isn’t looking for gifts right about now!)  Here’s a holiday market that not only features local food and drink, but in true community spirit, benefits the Oregon Food Bank as well.  Check out Season’s Eating Holiday Market at the New Deal Distillery, Sat. Dec. 10th, 11-6.

This weekend, we’re lucky to be able to choose from several farmers’ markets:

Portland Farmers Market

Oregon City Farmers Market

Montavilla Stock-up Market

Enjoy the clear weather and all the bounty from our foodshed!
